In this session, we'll look at how you can create your own interactive live streaming application with the AWS service that powers Twitch - Amazon Interactive Video Service (Amazon IVS).

You will learn about low-latency (2-5 seconds) and real-time streaming with less than 300ms of latency for group broadcasts and guest spots!

We'll also see how Amazon IVS can power your stream chat with a powerful, scalable WebSocket-based solution.

Like all AWS services, Amazon IVS integrates with other services to make your application easy to build, scale and deploy.

Todd Sharp, a principal developer advocate for Amazon Interactive Video Service (IVS), presents at Jaws pancreation 2024. He introduces IVS, a managed service for building interactive live streaming experiences. Key features of Amazon IVS include: 1. Low latency streaming (2-5 seconds) 2. Real-time streaming (300ms latency) 3. Stream chat for interactivity 4. Web and mobile SDKs for broadcast and playback 5. Control plane API for resource management Low latency streaming offers: - No spin-up time - Adaptive bitrate streaming - RTMP ingest (secure/insecure) - Suitable for user-generated content, live events, shopping, sports, and gaming Real-time streaming provides: - Web RTC-based - Up to 12 hosts and 25,000 concurrent viewers - Session and participant monitoring - Recording options - Layered encoding with simulcast Todd demonstrates how to set up a low latency channel in under 30 seconds using the Amazon IVS console. He encourages viewers to explore demos and resources available at ivs.rocks and on GitHub. Advanced use cases include streaming from games, with an example of a Unity game integrating IVS real-time streaming for interactive gameplay. Amazon IVS aims to simplify the development of powerful live streaming applications without requiring developers to be video experts. It handles the complexities of creating a reliable, low-latency global video network, allowing developers to focus on their application's unique features.
